Five little words woke me up to the privilege I was taking for granted. It wasn’t until I read about someone else entering into the holy communion that I realized how casually I expected access to the Lord anytime I wanted.
I didn’t have to wait for an invitation, or a certain time, or even a particular location. I had unfettered, unlimited time and attention with God……is anything so awe-inspiring?! To imagine that God Almighty would allow, much less desire, conversation with lowly man?! The privilege of such a moment falls fresh on me as I read about Moses in Numbers 7:89.
“When Moses entered the Tent of Meeting to speak with the LORD, he heard the voice speaking to him from between the two cherubim above the atonement cover on the ark of the Testimony. And he spoke with him.”
I am struck by this opportunity given and how unlikely it is that one gets an “audience” with a king, much less the King of All Kings. On one hand, I am a little ashamed that I may have been taking it for granted that I am able to enter His Presence at any given moment. On the other hand, I enjoy the freedom and intimacy afforded me by Jesus and His Righteousness credited to me through Calvary.
It says in Matthew 27:51 that at the moment of Jesus’ death, the “curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom”. No more barriers. No more separation. God became available to redeemed man in a glorious, intimate way. I, even I, could enter His Holy Presence and commune without fear or shame. Total openness and acceptance. Astounding really!
As much as I relish the ease of conversation with God, I am to be mindful of the honor and luxury of such moments. Jesus paid so great a price for my “open door” policy with His Father. It took Moses to remind me of it.
So the next time I am effortlessly entering Holy conversation with my Abba Father, I will praise my Savior who afforded me such luxury. His sacrifice gives me my most valued privilege-an unlimited audience with a Most Glorious King!
