Exciting News!!
Hi Friends! I am delighted to share my latest published article in a new quarterly journal by Sweet To The Soul Faith. It has 122 pages of articles, devotionals, recipes, Scripture reading lists, Bible study, parenting tips, Bible art journaling and templates, Scripture to pray over your children, summer activities for the family and so much more!
Their first issue is just in time for the summer. The theme of it is “inspire” and after having seen it firsthand, I can definitely attest to the beauty and inspiration of this magazine.
It is available through Amazon and the link is found here. This is a must-read for your summer vacation or just lounging by the pool with the kids. It would also make a great gift for friends and family.
Here is a short preview of my article-
The Subjugation of our Enemy
They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord. Psalm 112:7 NIV
What if we could teach our children NOT to be afraid? Is that even possible? If so, wouldn’t it have to start with us?
As a mother, I failed at this for many years because I lived in fear of an enemy. In my quest to guard my family against this adversary, I remained in an anxious state much of the time. This was due to my heightened senses scanning the horizon, looking for any sign of the enemy approaching and calculating what must be done if that were so.
My greatest fear was that I would be caught off guard and not know what to do, thereby worsening the effects of the harm against my children. Without knowing it, I was teaching my children to fear this foe as well.
Our enemy had several names, all equally intimidating- problems, trouble, or suffering. The very thought of them made me want to work all the more diligently so that my children were protected, which really meant that I was protected. You see, my greatest heartache was the heartache of one of my kids.
There’s a saying that you are only as happy as your saddest child. The daily goal of making sure no one was sad became second nature to me. It wasn’t long before I was feeling exhausted from this process, not to mention feeling a failure at it.
Graciously, God showed me the error of my ways.
Redefining My Enemy
By definition, a problem is a matter or situation regarded as unwelcome or harmful and needing to be dealt with and overcome. Inadvertently, I had allowed “problems” to become viewed as our enemy but that isn’t the way God sees them. There are no “problems” in His eyes, only opportunities.
Because God is sovereign, nothing presents itself as an issue to Him and that includes our problems. In fact, the term “subjugation” means the action of bringing someone or something under domination or control. That is exactly what God does regarding any and every issue facing His children.
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28 NIV
In essence, because of our relationship with God through His Son Jesus, sin and death are subjugated and no longer a threat to us. If God reigns over them, then we need not fear them.
Through a series of lessons, He showed me their lack of power over the life of a believer. Consequently, we do not need to live in fear of them but we do need to be equipped for them.
Understanding My Real Enemy
Problems, trouble, and suffering are really only tools, and depending on who is understood as being in control of them, they are used either for us or against us. If we believe that God as our loving Father is in control of them, then we see their limitations and purpose.
If we believe that they are weapons in the hand of our real enemy Satan, then we live in fear of them and their potential to wreak havoc in our lives.
Satan means to use pain in the lives of believers to become something we want to avoid at all cost. I fell for this as a mother hook, line, and sinker. What I failed to understand is this- What happens to us is not as important as Who reigns over us.
